Juventus Vs Crotone
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 21st of May 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Juventus Stadium (Turin)
After winning the Coppa Italia only three days ago, Juventus head to this game looking to add a second trophy for this season as they need a win against a Crotone side fighting for their spot in the league.
Massimiliano Allegri’s Bianconeri side have come to this fixture having just beaten Lazio in the Coppa Italia final 2-0 and claiming their third domestic cup trophy in a row, and are aiming to extend their league title winning streak from five to six on Sunday. They only need two points from their remaining two games to secure the title, but winning it against Crotone would give Allegri a chance to rest his key players against Bologna next week ahead of the Champions League final.
Davide Nicola’s Crotone have really struggled this season, having only won three games before April when they started this amazing run of being unbeaten in their last seven games, which has given them a massive 17 points. Having said that, they are still in the drop-zone going down to Serie B but only a point behind Empoli, who are in much more worse form right now. Crotone’s last game was an incredible 1-0 home victory against Udinese with an early goal from their Swedish midfielder Marcus Rohden.
Juventus and Crotone have already met once this season at Crotone’s home Ezio Scida in Calabria. Juventus won that comfortably 2-0 with goals from Mario Mandzukic and their star striker Gonzalo Higuain. Even though the scoreline isn’t that massive, it was a dominant display from Juventus, who enjoyed 80% of possession and struck 15 shots compared to Crotone’s 4.
Juventus’ injury situation is fairly good right now, with only Daniele Rugani and Marko Pjaca out with a knee injuries and the German midfielder Sami Khedira coming back from a hamstring injury. Allegri has confirmed that Buffon, Dani Alves, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro and Marchisio will start.
Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Buffon; Alex Sandro, Chiellini, Bonucci, Dani Alves; Marchisio, Pjanic; Mandzukic, Dybala, Cuadrado; Higuain
Crotone’s injury list isn’t long either as they only have the former Real Madrid youth player Bruno Martella out with an injury. Romanian midfielder Adrian Stoian is a doubt following an illness. Nicola will likely use the same line-up as he did last week against Udinese.
Predicted Lineup (4-4-2): Cordaz; Sampirisi, Ceccherini, Ferrari, Rosi; Nalini, Crisetig, Barberis, Rohden; Trotta, Falcinelli
HEAD TO HEAD
– These sides have only met three times before with Juventus winning all of them.
– Goal difference from these three fixtures is a staggering 10-0 for Juventus
– Crotone have only scored 31 times this season, with Juventus scoring 72 times
– From their last five fixtures, Juventus have gained 8 points and Crotone a
massive 11 points
– Juventus are yet to be defeated at home this season
I can only see this game going one way. Juventus will surely go for the title win with all guns blazing. Winning the title now would mean they could rotate their side next week against Bologna so they would have their first team rested completely for the Champions League final.
Even though Crotone has been in great form recently I can’t see a way they could score a goal against Juventus’ defence, without even mentioning keeping their own goal clear from the likes of Higuain and Dybala.
I reckon this will be a carbon copy of the earlier game between these two sides this season with Juventus controlling the game with possession and keeping a clean sheet while scoring enough goals to win the game even before the final whistle.
Score prediction: Juventus to win 4-0.
