The first half of the match-up was a case of quality over quantity. Bournemouth had the edge in possession but it was, for the most part, dry and useless. West Brom, on the other hand, had a plethora of shots in the first 45 minutes, one of which lead to the opening goal.
The second half dragged on a bit and did not yield a goal. In the end, Ahmed Hegazy’s first half header proved to be the winner for West Brom.
31′ Goal – Chris Brunt did what he does best and delivered a great set piece to the back post. Ahmed Hegazy, on loan from Egyptian side Al-Aly, put it home. The 6’5″ central defender always had the advantage on the header.
Ahmed Hegazy (WBA)
Hegazy’s loan to West Brom was seen by many as some much needed depth in the back line. He has been a standout everywhere he has played and it would be huge for the Baggies if he can translate that to the Premier League this season as well.
Marc Pugh (BOU)
Many fans and experts have questioned if Pugh has the quality to play in the Premier League as a 30 year old and he did not help his case today. The winger was subbed off after an unproductive hour on the pitch.
